Exporting your Cars from Japan

Once you buy  car from the auctions the obvious next question is "How do I export a car from Japan?". Auction Cars Japan is just a showcase site, but we have experience and please contact us if you need help and we can put you in touch with trusted exporters we have used before.

Single Car Export

Traditionally for exporting a single car from Japan Roll-on-roll-off (RoRo) shipping was the most popular and efficient method for exporting internationally.

In RoRo shipping, vehicles are driven directly onto the ship at the port of origin. Specialized ramps and decks are designed to accommodate various types of vehicles, from cars and trucks to buses and heavy machinery. The vehicles are securely parked and strapped down inside the ship's hull to prevent movement during transit. Unlike container shipping, where vehicles are loaded and unloaded individually into containers, RoRo shipping allows for multiple vehicles to be loaded onto the same vessel simultaneously, saving time and resources. because Vehicles can be driven onto the ship without the need for cranes or lifts, reducing handling costs.

Once the ship reaches its destination port, the vehicles are driven off the vessel using the same ramps used for loading. Importers or buyers can then collect their vehicles directly from the port or arrange for further transportation to their desired location.

However over the past 18 months to 2 years it has been almost impossible to get Ro-Ro bookings for individuals, and the price has risen highly. It may at this point almost be cheaper to load a single car in a 20ft shipping container depending on the destination.

Bulk Orders

When exporting more than 1 car it will almost certainly be cheaper to do this buy loading them in a shipping container.

Depending on the exact sizes of the cars to be loaded anywhere from 3-6 units can fit into one 40ft shipping container. This is done by raising some of the cars with wires to make the extra space, so it is very important to make sure that this is handled by professionals tat at experienced with this work to avoid any damage. Please contact if you need any recommendations about this.

I have added some examples here showing the loading style for different types of cars to help understand this.
